Die Entbehrlichen – The Dispensables
The Dispensables
Year: 2009
Country: German
Genre: Drama
Director: Andreas Arnstedt
Mark: 1 to 5 [3]
Plot: The tragic story being told in this movie is about an eleven year old child growing up in a lower working class family. The mother’s alcoholism reached a level that brought her in a psychiatry ward for detoxification and the father, not really able to educate his child anyway, ends up committing suicide in the living room. The child tries to cover up the death of his father out of fear to be brought to an orphanage, so he spends two weeks with the corpse of his father. As he can behave more freely while on his own, he starts to develop features he disliked in his father.
Personal View: Not a dispensable movie but not a ‘oh’ movie. The fact of a kid pretend that his father is alive, but in fact he was behind the sofa and covering the smell with incense, and even after all the things he passed at this complicated family. A drunk/bipolar mother at recovering, and a drunk aggressive father that most of times just scream but in rare times try to demonstrate some care on his son. Perturbed guy with fears and doing something that the most of the kids would do [except the ones that would enter in shock]. Not so good why? Coz it takes so long to show the situation, very long movie that sometimes makes you tired. But a nice movie, positive point is that you only realize the full context at the end, really the end of the movie. Recommended.
